01、the snowy day 下雪天
one winter morning peter woke up and looked out the window.
一个冬天的早晨，彼得醒来，望着窗外。
snow had fallen during the night. itcovered everything the night. it covered everything as far as he could see.

he thought it would be fun to join the big boys in their snowball fight, but he knew he wasn’t old enough-not yet.

so he made a smiling snowman, and he made angles.

he pretended he was a mountain-climber. he climbed up a big great tall heaping mountain of snow。

and slid all the way down.

he picked up a handful of snow-and another,and still another.

he packed it round and firm and put the snowball in his pocket for tomorrow. then he went into his warm house.

he told his mother all about his adventures while she took off his wet socks.

and he thought and thought and thought about them.

before he got into bed looked in his pocket. his pocket was empty. the snowball wasn’t there. he felt very sad.

while he slept, he dreamed that the sun had melted all the snow away.

but when he woke up his dream was gone. the snow was still everywhere. new snow was falling!

after breakfast he called to his friend from across the hall, and they went out together into the deep, deep snow.

02、just a toy 只是一个玩具
dad took my sister and me to the toy store.
we had been exrta helpful to mom all week so this was our treat.

finally, i picked the whirring, zooming, flashing spaceship with a parachute.
父亲说，“到做抉择的时分了。”
可是我拿不定主见，我很利诱。
最终，我拿起了一个旋转的，可以缩放的，带降低伞的世界飞船。
we stood in line.
but just as it was our turn at the cashier,
i knew for sure that i didn't want the whirring,
zooming, flashing spaceship with a parachute.
i wanted the roaring, stomping, hopping dinasaur.
咱们站好排队。
可是就在轮到咱们结账的时分，
我很断定我不想要这个旋转的，可以缩放的，带降低伞的世界飞船了。
我想要那个吼怒，跺脚，跳动的恐龙。
"dad, dad!" i said. "we made a terrible mistake. i got the wrong toy."

dad and my little sister didn't look very happy,
but we went back and got the dinosaur.

we had to stand in line all over again.
dad paid and we went to the car.
i was happy and my little sister was happy.

my little sister started collecting things to look at under dumb microscope.
i had to wait for dad to fix my dinosaur.

finally, it was fixed. i thought i would fool my sister,
so i set my dinosaur>but my dinosaur didn't roar.
it just squeaked. she laughed.
最终，恐龙玩具修好了。我心里想可以玩弄下小妹了。
所以我把恐龙的吼怒腔调到最大，然后悄然跟在小妹死后。
可是我的恐龙没有宣告吼怒声。

then i made it stomp real hard and it fell all to pieces.
my sister laughed some more. i cried.

mom said, "don't worry. dad can fix it."
i guess i threw a fit. i screamed,
"i don't want a fixed toy. i want a new, unbroken toy, now!"

mom sent me to my room until dinner.

at dinner i had to say i was sorry to everyone.
then mom said that tomorrow
dad would take me back to the toy store for an exchange.

the next day i had to wait all day long for dad to get home from work.
it was the longest day of my life.

i put my clothes in the drawers.
i straightened up my games.

the rest of the mess could fit under my bed, so i put it there.

i thought i might wash the floor.

but mom said, “no!”
so i just vacuumed instead.

everything was just about perfect.
